Charlotte Salomon was murdered in Auschwitz in 1943, when she was 26 years old. After the war, her family found her work Leben? oder Theater? ein Singespiel, regarded as one of the most astonishing autobiographical documents of the 20th century. Salomon recorded her entire life in colourful, expressionist paintings, adding notes about music that should go with the paintings for dramatic effect.
Wishful Singing will create a music theatre performance where Salomon’s works will take centre stage, with new music written by Dutch composer Steven Kamperman.
